Exciting Student Ministry News

Dear Wildwood,

At Wildwood we talk about being FOR the Next Generation following Christ.  Because of that, we intentionally invest our time, talent, and treasure to reach and disciple children and students.  This summer alone, Wildwood will reach out to over 1,200 young people through VBS, camps, and mission trips (in addition to our weekly activities.)  What an awesome opportunity!

As we end this school year, we have even more exciting news to share about our Student Ministry.  We desire to increase our investment in Middle School, High School, and College students – involving them in ministry that is both distinct (specific to their current life stage), yet connected (an integrated part of the rest of the church.)  In order to facilitate this, we will be creating a new “Student Ministry Department” spanning Middle School, High School, and College aged students.  Each of these three areas will have a distinct flavor and staff leader (i.e. Shift, the Avenue, and College Life), but will join together for the equipping of volunteer leaders and have a consistent vision throughout these formative years.  This is a BIG WIN for students and families at Wildwood and in our community!

In order to facilitate this plan, current Student Pastor Jonathan Holmes will provide overarching leadership to our new Student Ministry department (from Middle School – College).  Jonathan will continue to have a presence in Middle School and High School by teaching some on Sunday mornings, helping with big events (like DNow, Camp, and Mission Trips), and equipping leaders.  In addition to this role as Student Pastor, Jonathan will become our new College Pastor (his title will be “Student and College Pastor”), working with our current College Associate, Naomi Reyes, to provide leadership to a new and expanded College Life ministry at Wildwood.   As previously announced, former College Pastor Bryce Bouchard will focus on his role as the Director of the Navigators at OU.

With Jonathan taking a primary lead in College Ministry, we will be hiring a new High School Minister sometime this summer.  We are PUMPED about adding another staff member to focus on High School students.  Middle School Minister Chris Frakes and Student Ministry Associate Ciera Morren will continue in their current roles.  This will give us an awesome staff team to invest in each of our student ministries (Middle School-College.)

These are certainly some exciting changes that are FOR the next generation following Jesus and they take full effect August 1 (after the summer activities are completed but before the new school year starts.)  This will also allow us time to add our new High School minister to effectively resource the vision we believe God has provided.   Join us in praying for this transition and the ministry opportunities that lie ahead!

If you would like to talk further about these changes, we invite you to stop by the Fellowship Center after church on Sunday, June 3 at 12:10 for a Q&A with Jonathan and myself.  Thanks for joining us in reaching the next generation for Christ!  We believe that the best is yet to come for the Student Ministry at Wildwood.

In Christ,

Pastor Mark
