Meet New High School Minister Candidate!

Over the past month at Wildwood, we have been reminded that we are for following Jesus together to the glory of God.  As we live out that mission, by God’s grace we have the privilege of being For the Next Generation.  As Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”  At Wildwood this is clearly seen in the investment we have in our Children’s and Student Ministries.  God has provided a fantastic group of volunteers & staff in these areas, and this team is growing!

We are excited to introduce you to Abe Mahner (pronounced MAY-NOR), our new High School Minister candidate!  Abe and his wife Korie are graduates of Washburn University, while Abe also has his Master of Divinity Degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  For the past five years, Abe and Korie have led the Freshmen ministry of Christian Challenge (an outreach of Baptist Collegiate Ministries at Washburn University).  Abe also has experience as a Youth Minister, a position he served in while attending college.   Abe and Korie have a passion for helping students come to know Jesus so that they are equipped for a lifetime of following Him.

Last May, we announced a new structure that we believe will help facilitate an increased investment in helping students (of all ages) follow Jesus together to the glory of God.  This new structure involved the creation of a new Student Ministry department that would oversee ministry to Middle School, High School, and College Students.  Previously, our collegiate ministry was a stand alone ministry, but we saw strategic advantages in bringing all three of these groups of students under one umbrella.  Though each group of students (Middle School, High School, and College) will have their own program and staff, they will also work together for leadership development and training, as well as implementing a consistent strategy for evangelism and discipleship throughout these formative years.

At the time our Student Ministry department was expanded last May, we asked Student Pastor Jonathan Holmes to broaden his responsibilities to include shepherding our College ministry, a role Jonathan has been filling for the past 5 months.  We also wanted to hire a new High School Minister to join the team to further our investment in Next Generation Ministries.  The idea is that our Student Ministry staff team would include our Student Pastor Jonathan Holmes (who oversees all Student Ministry, but specifically invests in College Ministry), Middle School Minister Chris Frakes, Student Ministry Associate Ciera Morren, College Ministry Associate Naomi Reyes, and now Abe Mahner as our High School Minister.  We have prayerfully searched the past several months for the right person to fill our High School Minister position.  We are so excited to let you know that we believe God has provided the right candidate in Abe!

Feedback Wanted

We are excited for you to get to know Abe and Korie in the days ahead.  Abe will be teaching in “The Avenue” (our High School Ministry) this Sunday, October 28 at 9:45AM, and both Abe and Korie will be hanging out in the Avenue (Room 5 downstairs at Wildwood) this Sunday, Oct. 28 after the 11 AM service.  We would love for you to stop by and meet the Mahners!

At Wildwood, we are an Elder led congregation.  This means that we have entrusted our Elders (a team of twelve men who meet regularly for the ministry of the Word and prayer while providing spiritual oversight to our congregation) to make decisions regarding the vision, direction, and care of our congregation.  On certain decisions, including the addition of certain staff positions, we have a two-week period to gather feedback from the congregation.

The mechanism we have created to gather this feedback is an online form where you can let us know your thoughts about adding Abe to our team.  Please take the time to let us know your thoughts (positive feedback or concerns) regarding the direction we are headed.  You can access this form at wildwoodchurch.org/feedback. Please provide all feedback by November 6.

Thank you for joining us in prayer as we all embark on this journey into the next season of being For the Next Generation following Jesus at Wildwood!
