Questions for Reflection

Sunday May 6

What did Jesus really mean?

Matthew 12:22-32

1. Have you (or someone you have known) been haunted by or worried about having possibly committed the unpardonable sin?  Expand some.

2. Why is the context of a passage so important in accurately handling the Word of Truth?

3. Here’s a potential scenario:  Someone approaches you and relates some recent apparent miraculous actions that they say are the work of the Holy Spirit.  You hesitate to immediately affirm those actions as being from the Spirit.  They then solemnly warn you that you may be in danger of committing the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.  How do you process their warning?

 4. Three reasons were given as to why the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit cannot be duplicated today.  What were the three reasons?

5. It was stated, “the Devil delights in paralyzing people with fear.”  What are some ways he does that today?

6. What was the Pharisees primary concern as Jesus began to attract followers?

7. Reflect on:

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe.  Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.

The Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and truth…who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin (Exodus 34:6-7a)

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)

Takes some moments to praise God for His abundant grace and mercy.
